Beijing, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Great Wall, Xian, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong

The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall and the Summer Palace are the main highlights of Beijing which has been the capital since the 13th Century. By contrast, Xi'an was the ancient seat of 73 emporers and 11 dynasties. There is evidence of occupation from over 6000 years ago and it is from here that the Silk Road was established westwards around 139 BC. Onto Nanjing to see the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's mousoleum, Xiaoling Tomb of the Ming Dynasty and the Linggu Temple. "An ancient Chinese saying goes "Above there is heaven; below, Hangzhou". Mountains, pagodas, temples, caves and hidden springs epitomise this area of south eastern China. By train to Shanghai to experience the pace of life in a city that has redefined the word modern. Established by the British as a trading post in the 1840's Hong Kong is now home to myriads of shopping opportunities. Take a ride on the implausibly steep tram to the peak, and gaze out over the harbour that dictated East West trade for decades.
